The new Doré Bible website is conceived as a digital exhibition: part historical archive, part visual collection, and part gateway to the available digital editions.
The design deliberately keeps the interface quiet so the artwork remains the focus.
A project conceived in 2002.
The project to colorize the 241 illustrations of the Bible illustrated by Gustave Doré was conceived in 2002 from an idea by Enrico La Stella, journalist and professor.
It was completed in 2004 by Marco La Stella, graphic designer, using Adobe Photoshop and entirely without AI assistance. At the time, the generative AI tools available today did not exist.
The work was carried out with the utmost respect for the integrity of the original illustrations: the forms, lines and essential character of Doré’s artwork were preserved throughout the colorization process.
The result is the full-color Doré Bible collection presented here: 241 illustrations created for a modern digital audience while retaining the visual identity of the original engraved scenes.
